"Urban mirages"

Tassos Schizas

With the cooperation of Cafe Del Arte

1 - 30 November

A mixture of transparent glass, shiny metal, gray cement, blue sky and cotton clouds represents the basic material of the photos.  Black, shady masses, with underexposed shootings and the difference of brightness of the straightly illuminated and shadowy surfaces, which get over of the boundaries of photosensitive material, shape the structural forms. Reflections of the sky and the city transform the sense of the space and redefine the relation between the buildings and the environment, composing the urban mirages.

Tassos Schizas was born in Athens but he spent his childhood in Tripoli Libya . In 1982 he moved back to Greece and since then Thessaloniki has been his permanent residence.

Since 1982 the art of photography has been his means of expressing his artistic inclinations. He has been teaching in many private clubs and vocational schools.

In 1993, he published the “Gialino Mati” (Glass Eye), a black and white photographic magazine which was distributed to the public free of charge.

Twenty issues were published between 1993 and 1996. In 1996, “Fotografiko Eidolo” (Photographic Idol), a new more professional, monothematic, artistic magazine succeeded the “Gialino Mati”. Until now 27 issues have been published.

During the same year “Fotoporoi”, a photography club was established by him and his students. This club is sponsored by the cultural organization of the municipality of Eleftherio – Kordelio.

There, he gives a series of primary lessons on the basic knowledge of the art of photography while coordinating the team’s actions. This team is one of the most energetic in Thessaloniki

He and the members of “Fotoporoi” have organized for four years a photo festival in Thessaloniki , witch will grow up in a great festival in autumn of 2010, under the name “Contrast – Thessaloniki Photo Festival”, with participations of many Greek photographic organizations.

All these years he has been organizing exhibitions, lectures and seminars.

He has written numerous notes; he has published a series of articles and has also published a book on the technique of photography.

His portfolios have been published many times both in magazines and on the net.

He has held thirteen individual exhibitions and has taken part in thirty six group exhibitions.
