"Reasonless
place" Andreas Katsakos With the cooperation of the National Bank Cultural Foundation (M.I.E.T.) - Cultural Centre of Thessaloniki 1 - October 24 Andreas
Katsakos’ images is an exceptional example of positioning the
photographic practice in the realm of ‘madness’ rather than of
‘tameness’. According to these categories, suggested by Roland Barthes
in the epilogue of his book Camera Lucida, the spectator confronts
the dilemma of what s/he should choose to ‘see/apprehend’ in a
photograph. Andreas Katsakos takes particular care of underlining the
medium’s inherent quality to
approach places and meanings that are connected with reality through a
relationship which is affinal
in terms of likeness/form , however is
vague in terms of verbally
/ conceptually defining it. His
photographic practice keeps a distance from the potentially and
perceptually diffident, meek, sequacious, tame image; he rather goes after
the perceptually daring, illogical, misunderstood, mad image. Katsakos
serves/submits to the medium, shaping/entering reasonless places. Vassilis
Kantas
